From advanced solutions for toenail fungus to advice on sports biomechanics, Dr. Ismaela Báez Comprés and our team share their clinical expertise so you can enjoy a healthy, comfortable, and pain-free stride. Get informed and take care of every step you take!
Pain should never be considered normal. While fatigue after a long day is common, sharp pain, stabbing pains, or extreme heaviness are signs that something isn’t working properly in your biomechanics or your footwear. Our bodies are wise, and pain is their way of asking for help.
Most importantly: Don’t try to cut it at home. Manipulating it without the proper tools or knowledge often worsens the infection and pain. At our clinic, we use minimally invasive and virtually painless techniques to remove the ingrown nail spicule (the small piece of nail that is embedded) and provide you with immediate relief.
Fungi are very resilient microorganisms, so home remedies rarely work and can damage the nail. Today, science offers highly effective treatments, such as advanced topical therapies or laser therapy. Ideally, a sample should be taken to identify the exact fungus and apply the most effective treatment for you.
It depends on how fast they grow, but generally every 3 or 4 weeks. Trimming should always be done. straightWithout rounding or digging into the edges, to prevent ingrown toenails. If you have difficulty reaching your toes or vision problems, we’d be happy to do it safely for you.
Calluses are a defense mechanism of the skin against excessive friction or pressure. They are not simply a cosmetic issue; they indicate that that area of the foot is bearing more weight than it should. Removing them provides relief, but investigating and correcting the cause (with proper footwear or insoles) is what prevents them from returning.
Walking barefoot has many muscular and sensory benefits, especially for children. However, in adults with certain conditions (such as plantar fasciitis or diabetic foot), walking without support on hard surfaces like the floor at home can aggravate pain or cause injury. If you don’t have any health conditions, walking barefoot occasionally is beneficial.
Absolutely. Our feet are the foundation of our body. If the base is unstable or misaligned due to unsuitable footwear (too flat, too high a heel, or too narrow), the impact and poor posture are transmitted directly to the knees, hips, and spine.
Diabetes can decrease sensation and circulation in the feet, making even a small wound a serious risk. We recommend checking your feet daily for redness, washing them with lukewarm water (never hot), drying them thoroughly (especially between the toes), and visiting us regularly for nail trimming and callus removal.
Yes, it’s essential. We recommend the first biomechanical assessment starting at age 4 or 5. At that age, their feet and bones are still developing. Detecting problems like flat feet, toe walking, or frequent tripping early allows us to apply simple treatments and prevent complications in adulthood.
Orthotics are recommended if you experience recurring pain in your feet, knees, or back, if your shoes have uneven wear, if you suffer from plantar fasciitis, or if you participate in high-impact sports. At our clinic, we perform a thorough biomechanical gait analysis to confirm whether orthotics would be beneficial for you.
No. Standard insoles are made for an “average foot,” which doesn’t really exist, and usually only provide cushioning. Custom insoles are a medical treatment: they are designed specifically after scanning your feet and studying your gait, correcting any issues that might affect your foot shape. you pathology and aligning you bone structure.
Today, materials technology allows us to create very thin and versatile insoles. While ideally they should be used with closed shoes, with laces and a firm heel counter, we design specific models for athletic shoes, work shoes, and even narrower footwear. We’ll bring the treatment to your lifestyle.
It’s a process of muscular and joint adaptation. We generally recommend gradual use: a few hours the first day, increasing little by little. Most of our patients get completely used to it within 7 to 15 days. It’s normal to feel slight discomfort from the change in posture, but there should never be sharp pain.
We recommend an annual check-up. The materials wear down with daily use, and most importantly, the shape and needs of your feet can change over time. During the annual check-up, we assess whether adjustments or replacements are necessary to ensure they continue to perform at their best.
Plantar warts are caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). Science is advancing rapidly, and today, in addition to traditional treatments, we have therapies such as laser or microwave treatments that directly target the affected tissue, stimulating the immune system and resulting in faster healing with less discomfort.
Inefficient biomechanics not only cause injuries like tendinitis or overuse injuries, but also make you expend more energy with each stride. By analyzing your running gait and correcting minor deviations with personalized support, we optimize toe-off force and improve cushioning, safely enhancing your athletic performance.
A bunion is a bone deformity. Once established, the only way to eliminate it is surgically. However, with conservative podiatry, we can do a great deal: through custom orthotics to redistribute pressure, custom-made silicone inserts, and foot physiotherapy exercises, we can slow its progression and, above all, almost completely eliminate the pain.
Dry, cracked skin (especially on the heels) is an entry point for infections (bacteria and fungi) and can bleed and become intensely painful when walking. We recommend the daily use of specific creams containing urea (between 10% and 20%), applied at night, to maintain skin elasticity against daily impact.
Absolutely. The foot is a highly innervated and vascularized structure. Continued stress can increase muscle tension in the plantar fascia, triggering acute pain. Furthermore, changes in diet, body weight, or circulatory problems resulting from a sedentary lifestyle have a direct and visible impact on the health of our lower extremities.
We offer a wide range of treatments for all foot pathologies, from general podiatry to podiatric surgery, biomechanics, sports podiatry and specialized treatments for pediatric feet.
